Finally, McDonald Standing in Tecoma , But Residents Fight to Keep

              McDonald's fast-food restaurant in Tecoma areas outside Melbourne , Australia , was officially opened on Monday ( 04/07/2014 ) , but dozens of local residents determined to continue the protests that have many years they are doing .

Plans McDonald 's presence in an area known for its cafes and local pastries had been challenged local residents since 2011 ago .

Its position on the main road towards Dandenong Ranges neighborhood outside the city of Melbourne , making local residents concerned about the changing image of the small town of Tecoma .

At least 40 residents attended since the morning before the restaurant officially opened to the public .

According to residents , McDonald's does not fit with the character of a small town Tecoma , and would also tend to turn off local businesses .


In 2012 , the protests ended in an uproar after protesting residents decided to spend the night at the location of the building to be demolished to build the restaurant .

Local authorities have rejected the plan to open the restaurant after receiving a petition from residents who signed 1,100 people .

But Civil and Administrative Justice Victoria state overturned the decision of the local government .

Field Coordinator ( coordinators ) these protests , Gary Muratore , said they would continue their protest " to the restaurant business. "

" We will continue here . We will remain peaceful protest . Fixed legal , but also vocal , " said Muratore .

He added , " We want everyone to know , the people in the Dandenong Ranges does not support this development . We want to see this restaurant go bankrupt ! "

Instead , the license owner Tecoma McDonald , James Currie , states are not affected by the protest .

" I believe this restaurant fits TecomaI area , and has opened 100 jobs . Glad I could employ them at McDonald's , " he said .
